This is the forth and final part of myGilgameshhands onhistory unitfor children of all ages.

Last month we focused on the second bookThe Revenge of Ishtar.

We learned about Mesopotamian relief art and made our own raised relief.

Mesopotamia, Gilgamesh, hands on history unit - so many fun ideas for kids from 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade!! (homeschool, social studies, history fair)

I put the children to work with a mortar and pestle.

We used equal amounts of pistachio nuts and fresh dates, approximately half a cup of each.

The children took it in turns to mush both the nuts and then some finely cut dates.

Mesopotamia, The Last Quest of Gilgamesh

There is so much to discuss with this book.

We chose:

Ziggurats

Temples inMesopotamiawere originally built on a raised flat platform.

These stepped towers became known asziggurats.

Mesopotamia- Gilgamesh- Mersu

We read pages 24 and 25 from the Eyewitness book.

The earliest forms of this ancient writing are thought to be found on small spherical clay tokens.

For example, my older children madecylinder seals and signatory sealsduring our foray into Mesopotamia a few years ago.
