The second way is with an open door syllable.
This means that when a syllable ends with a vowel, the vowel will make the long vowel sound.
Long O Vowel Teams
Now we jump to our vowel teams.
A vowel team is when two vowels come together to make one sound.
Sometimes they make a long vowel sound, and other times they make a totally different sound.
Think about oy in joy and the oi in soil.
But for today we are going to look at three vowel teams that make the long o sound.
Next, we introduce the ow vowel team.
The ow vowel team is normally used at the end of words.
But it does have an exception.
If the word is an irregular past tense verb with the letter n, you also use ow.
Finally, we get to the oe.
It is the least common way to make the long o sound, but it is used.
